Paloma A. Capanna is a freelance writer & photographer, as well as an attorney. Paloma brings decades of writing, photography, and publishing to her work. Her bylines regularly appear in City Newspaper for all things classical from previews and profiles to concert reviews. Paloma's photography is sold throughout the region at various art shows, including the Rochester Museum & Science Center Holiday Show, Corn Hill Festival, Clothesline Arts Festival, and Artist's Row at the Public Market.
Paloma thinks of her Canon Elan 7 as her side-kick. Loaded with only Kodak 35mm film, most of her film work is serendipity. A natural lighting specialist, Paloma is most influenced by the philosophy of the French Impressionists and Monet's belief that light changes every six minutes. When doing cathedral work, Paloma has been known to wait for hours to get her shot.
Recently, Paloma added a Canon 60D to her bag, just in time to shoot the Rochester International Jazz Festival 2011. From concert shots of the incomparable k.d. lang, British rocker Elvis Costello and .38 Special, from the gypsy jazz of Stephane Wrembel to the sweat-drenched jazz of the Chris Beard Band, Paloma is all about candids. And, even though it's digital, it remains flash-free and Photoshop-free. Nothing about the purity of framing and timing has changed for Paloma.
Paloma received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science magna cum laude in 1988 from Wheaton College (MA), where the faculty elected her to the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society, and in 1991 she received her Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo School of Law. She was admitted to practice law in New York in 1992.
Paloma is a member of the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester.
